Mental health is a state in which one can comprehend her or his capabilities, work effectively, cope with normal stress and interact with his or her community.
Do you see yourself in this description? If not that’s completely normal.
Unfortunately, our mental health is often left behind because it’s such a taboo theme. Still, there are extremely high suicide and depression rates in Luxembourg. According to 2020 UNICEF study 16,5% of young people aged 10 to 19 have to live with mental disorders. That’s higher than the global average (13%). In addition, 15,2% already considered suicide and 7,7% have tried to take their own life.
Even though schools are trying to make some efforts (CePas,…), it isn’t taken seriously and we hardly hear anyone talk about mental health in schools. You can’t really just swoop in and solve this issue easily or even at all, but we wanted to create something to boost everyone’s moods. We know that we can’t take mental health disorders out of this world, nevertheless we want to have a good influence on people and at least try to cheer them up and help. We feel that it’s important to erase the taboo feeling of talking about mental health and involve everyone but especially students. Honestly, everyone has their own issues. The only problem here is that not everyone has someone they can talk to about it.
